Garage conversions usually necessitate supplementary insulation as the garage space will be altered to a habitable room, and therefore must comply with building regulations for insulation in this type of space. These regulations specify a U-value for insulation, which gauges the rate of heat loss. These are set differently for walls, floors, and roofs. To comply with building regulations the garage conversion must meet the U-values in all three of these areas, but supplementary insulation can be added to exceed these values and increase energy efficiency. Wall insulation for garage conversions is typically done by using internal wall insulation, which adds insulated plasterboard to the pre-existing walls. This will add thermal insulation and stop heat from dissipating through the walls. Insulation must also be added around windows and doors as these areas can leak heat particularly severely. Roofs for garage conversions will also require insulation. Pitched roofs will require insulation to the same level as the rest of your house. Flat roofs also require insulation. This can be done by using a cold roof system, where insulation is fixed between the roof joists along with ventilation to avoid condensation forming. The other possibility is a warm roof, where insulation is added above the roof joists. Floor insulation is also needed in garage conversions. This is easier if the floor level of the garage requires elevating in order to meet the rest of the house as an extra layer of insulation can be easily put into either a raised concrete floor, timber joists or a floating floor. If the floor does not need to be elevated it might be necessary to dig out the floor to add the necessary insulation.

Westerham is a community and civil parish in the Sevenoaks Area of Kent, England, located 5 miles (8 kilometres) west of Sevenoaks. It is recorded as early as the 9th century, as well as was discussed in the Domesday Book in a Norman type, Oistreham (compare Ouistreham in Normandy, Oistreham in 1086). Ham is Old English for a town or homestead, therefore Westerham means a western homestead. The River Darent streams with the community, and formerly powered three watermills. Westerham was residence to the Black Eagle Brewery, which was taken over by Taylor Walker & Co in the 1950s, becoming part of Ind Coope in 1959 as well as enclosing 1965. Yeast from the brewery was maintained at the National Collection of Yeast Societies and also is currently used by the existing day Westerham Brewery which was developed in 2004 by Robert Wicks. The brewery generates a series of ales, including Westerham British Bulldog. Westerham was home to Crayford Engineering, a successful cars and truck conversion company, from 1962 to the 1980s, working from a workshop at Squerryes Mede.
